Should you jump on the trending bandwagon?

I get asked a lot when it comes to social media, should we be posting videos in the current trending style?
I always say to my clients, yes please do but only if it fits your brand and style.
So many new types of trending videos and posts appear each week now, it’s hard to keep track for a business trying to post on their social media.
Should we do an “of course” style video or should we post a “lip sync” style video? And yes it could help increase viewership for a brief time but I would always suggest thinking about the people who will watch it.
Are you making the video because it fits in with your company brand, style, voice, media marketing plan and does it portray what you want regarding you, your business or your products?
If the people who watch it are no wiser at the end of the clip of who you are or what you do then why are you spending time and money making it? Business social media is a completely different creature to personal social media.
Always remember that the goal of a company's social media is to inform, educate and entertain leaving the viewer with the information they wanted, intrigued by your products or services or wanting to head to your website or to contact you for further information or to purchase your goods and services.
Yes it may increase your viewership for a short time but if it doesn't equate to an increase in a customer base or sales is it worth your time just to amuse views who will then move on to the next video.
